Raymond J. Albert
Raymond John Albert, age 84, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, October 19, 2011. He was born May 27, 1927 to the late Raymond and Kathryn (Hildebrand). He will be missed by his loving wife of 63 years Cornelia (Beresh), children Daniel (Tove), Martin, Christopher, Roxanne (Larry) Macioci, Catherine (Jeff) Lehr, 14 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and his faithful dog, Blacky. He will also be missed by Father Emeka, Nigeria, whose priesthood Ray sponsored. He is also survived by brothers Stanley (Pat) and Robert (Pat) and preceded in death by sister Pauline (Tom) Coughlin. Raymond joined the Navy at age 17 during WWII and also served during the Korean Conflict. For 40 years he was president and general manager of Kingswood Lumber Co., Columbus, OH and one of the founding members of SYNTAXIS group homes and served many other charitable organizations with the support of his devoted wife. He retired to Amanda, Ohio and they started the Albert Family Tree Farm. Raymond also served on the Ohio State Medical Board for 24 years where he was the first non-physician president in the board’s history. In 2001, he was inducted into the Ohio Veteran’s Hall of Fame. He was also a recipient of the Patriot’s Award by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society for his and his daughter Roxanne’s work in finding and marking the graves of lost Medal of Honor recipients. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church Lancaster, Ohio with Father Kevin Lutz as Celebrant and Father Denis Kigozi and Father Craig Eilerman as Co-Celebrants. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery where military honors will be observed. Family will receive friends on Sunday, October 23, 2011 from 2:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the SHERIDAN FUNERAL HOME, 222 S. Columbus Street Lancaster. A vigil service will be held on Sunday at 7:30 P.M. with Deacon Frank Sullivan officiating.
